Hello, friends—
Elizabeth here with some news: yes, we have a manifesto. Curious?
Like most organizations, we have a mission statement to share our intentions with you, so you can see if you are aligned to our vision. Being an art school and a gallery, where what we do depends on you, we took this a step further and drafted a manifesto.
The first item in our manifesto, curiosity, is at the core of our intentions:
At the heart of everything we do lies an unyielding curiosity – a passion for lifelong learning that drives us to explore, experiment, and embrace new perspectives.
Curiosity is behind the school existing in the first place. We asked, what could an art school be if built on curiosity? What if we let our interests fuel more questions? What if we invited others to be a part of it in a way that put their passions first?
In our mission statement, we ask teachers and students to feel empowered to challenge conventional thinking, and what could be more challenging to conventional thinking than curiosity?
At ShapeShifter, we believe that anyone can be creative; creativity doesn’t belong to any particular group. But to be creative, you first have to be curious. We will cultivate curiosity, and together we’ll ask all of the questions, listen to all of the ideas, try out all of the materials, and be open to learning from each other as we build this community.
