In July, Sophia Mason is teaching her Sewing Machine Basics skill-builder workshop again. This popular offering helps students to create a sampler as practice for a set of sewing machine functions. As with all ShapeShifter classes, learning to use a sewing machine can be beneficial to all types of artists, and we’re excited about the value that Sophia brings to her students’ art practice.

Because students are asked to bring their own sewing machine, I did a little research about the Memphis Public Library’s Library of Things to see if I could borrow a sewing machine. And it turns out they have three available! While looking it up, I discovered a wealth of items that you can borrow from the library that could be useful to artists, including a soldering kit, a knitting machine, a video projector, and a crochet hook set. Just one more reason to love the public library.

Sewing Machine Basics is sold out for the July date. Sign up ShapeShifter’s newsletter to get information on all upcoming classes and gallery events.

Love how this research by Elizabeth and the generosity of the library make this class more accessible! Way to go!
