Explore watercolor through a playful, curious, and hands-on approach that goes beyond traditional techniques. Designed for students with basic watercolor experience or those who have completed an introductory course, this class focuses on unconventional methods and materials that play well with watercolor. Working experimentally, students will explore techniques such as watercolor monotypes on Yupo paper, painting on glass or plexiglass using clear absorbent ground, creating implied texture with a variety of materials, and making simple plant-based watercolors.

Emphasis will be placed on exploration, process, and creative risk-taking rather than polished results. By the end of the course, students will have produced a series of experimental works and gained practical techniques and approaches that can be incorporated into their ongoing watercolor practice.

Completion of Intro to Watercolor or previous experience is suggested to get the most from this class.
